Summary
La Musique is an exceptional restoration of an 18th century chai, providing a truly glorious 200m² beamed multi-purpose salon, and eight ground-floor en-suite bedrooms sleeping 16 in comfort. It is notable for having two exceptional pianos, including a Steinway D, concert grand and is an ideal location for musical groups. A securitised swimming pool, table tennis and access to a wide range of shared sporting facilities with two of our other houses: tennis court, croquet lawn, boules court, football field and nine hole short golf course, complete the picture. The property is surrounded by vineyards, within walking distance of the local village, Gensac, with bars, restaurants, and is 25 minutes from the beautiful and historic wine town of Saint-Emilion. Riding, golf, canoeing, fishing are all nearby.
The Setting
La Musique is set in three acres and looks out over its pool, garden, fields and vineyards. The views are over uninterrupted countryside, the location very peaceful. It is two kilometres from the ancient village of Gensac, which has all essential shops plus restaurants, and is 15 minutes by car from the larger towns of Sainte-Foy-la-Grande and Castillon-la-Bataille. The famous and glorious wine town of Saint-Emilion is just 25 minutes away. Car parking is in front of the house and there is a fenced pool and an arbor covered with wisteria and honeysuckle that houses picnic tables for outside dining.
Accommodation
The glory of La Musique is the upstairs salon, with arched beams that traverse the 10 metre span. It is reached by a stone staircase from the entrance hall. The room encompasses 200 square metres of living space with high ceilings, oak floors and a large open stone working fireplace. There are separate areas around the fireplace, a dining area with a specially commissioned oval gate-leg table made of 150 year-old oak that sits 16 comfortably and sociably. There is a snooker area, a study area and the amazing cinema, which also provides free to air UK television channels on the screen. The house has Wifi. Behind the screen is a truly exceptional full concert grand piano, a recent Steinway Model D, one previous owner (Alfred Brendel). The pianos in this salon (complete with stage lighting) provide a unique concert room experience and is an ideal venue for music festivals and musical gatherings. The piano is also available to qualified pianists at a charge. Also located on the upper floor is the fully-equipped kitchen. Sleeping Accommodation
The ground floor is attractively laid out with eight bedrooms (4 twins, 4 doubles) with a combination of fully equipped modern bath and shower rooms en-suite. All linen and towels are provided. All bedrooms are tastefully decorated with antique armoires and modern comfortable beds. The house is centrally heated; there is an energy charge for heating/logs throughout the year. Housecleaning, linen-change, babysitting, musicians and a chef are available as optional extras at separate cost upon request.
