LA MUSIQUE
The Setting
La Musique is set in 3 acres and looks out over its pool, garden, and fields and vineyards. It is 2 kms from the ancient village of Gensac, which has all essential shops plus restaurants, and is 15 minutes from the larger towns of Ste.Foy-la-Grande and Castillon-la-Bataille. The famous and glorious wine town of St.Emilion is just 25 minutes away.
The House
The glory of La Musique is the upstairs salon, with arched beams that traverse the 10 metre span. It is reached by a stone staircase from the entrance hall. The room encompasses 200 sq metres of living space with high ceilings, oak floors and a large open stone fireplace. It is tastefully furnished with both modern and antique furniture, large sofas and armchairs, for comfortable holiday living. The halogen lighting has been professionally designed. All the original windows have been retained, with small gothic arched windows to the north. The room is equipped with a large screen cinema system, with an electrically operated retractable 3.5 metre screen. There is a 7-channel Denon amplifier plus the latest Pioneer DVD/CD player. The system also provides UK television channels on the screen. In addition, there is conventional wide-screen TV, a snooker table, library and an internet computer plus phone/fax: lot's to keep everyone happy, even in winter.
The Piano
La Musique also boasts of a truly exceptional full concert grand piano, a recent Steinway Model D, one previous owner being Alfred Brendel. The piano in this salon (complete with stage lighting) provides a unique concert room experience. The piano is available to qualified pianists, with a separate security deposit and a charge of £350 per week.
Also located on the upper floor is the fully-equipped kitchen. With oak units, it has everything needed for ease of cooking for large or small groups, including a cast iron Godin cooker, twin dishwashers, a microwave, American Fridge with ice-maker, and plenty of work surfaces. There is an island unit with double sinks. The dining area has a specially commissioned oval gateleg table made of 150 year-old oak that sits 16 comfortably and sociably.
The ground floor is attractively laid out with eight bedrooms,(4 twins, four doubles) with a combination of fully equipped modern bath and shower-rooms en-suite. All linen and towels are provided. All bedrooms are tastefully decorated with antique armoires and modern comfortable beds. There is also a separate WC and a laundry room equipped with washer and dryer. The house is centrally heated; there is a separate charge for heating/logs between 15th September and 15th May.
Housecleaning, babysitting, musicians and a chef are available as optional extras at separate cost upon request. Please ask us about Orpheus and Bacchus Gourmet which offers a live-in chef. Riding, golf, canoeing, fishing, boat and bicycle France are all nearby. Wine tours of the chateaux of the Medoc or locally can be arranged upon request.
Outside
Ample parking. 2 acres of open landscaped lawns. Secured pool, (10 metres by 5 metres) in front of the house. BBQ, table tennis, tables, chairs, parasols, plus sunloungers by the pool. Clients have use of the tennis court, croquet lawn and boules court on the estate.
